Fort Bend Family Promise
"Hebrews 13:2......Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!
Fort Bend Family Promise is an interfaith ministry to children and their parents who are experiencing temporary homelessness. The program began in 2005, with the first Day Center on the New Hope campus in the Old Sanctuary building, repurposed to allow families a place for showers, laundry and time to regroup during the day.
Now a coalition of over 20 area churches, guest families stay overnight on the church properties that normally are vacant in the evenings. New Hope volunteers setup air mattresses for guest families, bring evening meals and spend time with the children and parents in the program, and act as overnight hosts on tempur-pedic air beds. We currently partner with First United Methodist Church in Missouri City, which have individual rooms for each family and volunteer overnight hosts.
This is hands-on ministry to families going through difficult times, offering safety and extending the love of Christ towards empowering parents back to self-sufficiency. The Family Promise model has an 85%+ success rate for families remaining independent after 'graduating' from this temporary self-help program.
New Hope is proud and grateful to have been a charter member and instrumental leader in this interfaith ministry, that now is extending into the greater Richmond area in 2020. "
